Tattoo Aftercare 101

ree

So, you've just gotten a brand new tattoo and you're wondering, "What is the best way to take care of your new tattoo?" Here's a few tips to ensure you get the best results

1. Keep it clean!

Try your best to keep your fresh tattoo off of any unclean surfaces. For example, doing outdoor physical activity on the day you got your tattoo is a BAD IDEA. This includes, hiking, swimming, biking, running, skateboarding, and pretty much outdoor sports of any kind. Even touching your fresh tattoo with dirty hands or scratching can be enough to cause an infection. Its very important to wash 2 times a day using an unscented anti bacterial soap. If your tattoo scabs at all, its important to not wipe or rip the scabs off, when you're cleaning your tattoo. Try to let the scabs fall off on their own and you'll have better results

2.Moisturize Frequently

Keeping your tattoo well-moisturized is key to preventing it from becoming dry and dull. I think a gentle, unscented moisturizer lotion to keep your skin hydrated or Cocoa Butter are the best options. Apply a thin layer multiple times a day, but be careful not to overdo it, as too much moisture can also be harmful.

3. Protect from the Sun

Exposure to the sun's harmful UV rays can cause your tattoo to fade over time, but it can also harm your tattoo during the healing process. Keep your tattoo out of direct sun light and heat for at least the first 3-5 days. Make sure to apply a high-SPF sunscreen when heading outdoors after its healed. This simple step can go a long way in preserving the vibrancy of your ink.

4. Avoid Soaking

Its not only dangerous but irresponsible. Soaking your tattoo, especially in a hot tub, swimming pool, or at the beach is putting yourself at risk of an infection. You want to give yourself about about 2 week before going swimming or taking baths (showers are ok!)

5. Say No to Itching

As your tattoo heals, it's natural for it to itch. Try to resist the urge to scratch or pick at it. Doing so can damage the skin and lead to scarring. Instead, gently tap or slap the itchy area to alleviate the sensation.

7. Stay Hydrated

Drinking an adequate amount of water is not only beneficial for your overall health but also helps in maintaining the skin's elasticity and vibrancy. Hydrated skin is happy skin, and happy skin means a happy tattoo!

8. Patience is Key

Remember, good things take time. Your tattoo will go through various stages of healing, and it may not look perfect right away. Be patient and trust the process. In the end, all your care and patience will pay off with a beautiful, long-lasting piece of art on your skin.

Whether you're a tattoo enthusiast or a newbie to the tattoo scene, taking proper care of your ink is essential to ensure it ages like fine wine. By following these tattoo aftercare secrets, you'll be well on your way to flaunting a stunning tattoo that stands the test of time.

So, go ahead, treat your tattoo with the care and attention it deserves, and watch it shine bright for years to come!
